GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Blood Angels
A human gang that stalks the Fringe by night.


 

Blood slave
A derogatory term for a human who willingly lets vampires drink his or her blood.



Eden
A human settlement rumored to be entirely free of vampires and rabids.


 

The Fringe
The derelict area on the outskirts of the vampire city of New Covington, where unregistered humans scavenge for food and shelter.


 

Fringer
A human resident of the Fringe–most run in small crews for protection.


 

Mole man
A pale, frightening, often deformed human who lives underground in the sewers and tunnels of New Covington.


 

New Covington
The vampire city where Allison Sekemoto was born, located in the northwest of the former United States.


 

Old Chicago
The ruined remains of the massive human city, now run by the vampire king known as Jackal.


 

Pet
A privileged human resident of New Covington specially chosen by the vampires to control and govern other registered humans.


 

Rabid
A mindless bloodthirsty creature first created when vampires were injected with the Red Lung virus. It feeds on humans, infecting them and propagating the subspecies.



Raider
A human member of the motorcycle gang run by the vampire king Jackal.


 

Red Lung
An insidious virus that killed off most of the human population about 60 years ago.


 

Registered
A human resident of New Covington who has an identifying tattoo and gives blood monthly in return for food and shelter.


 

Unregistered
A human resident of New Covington who remains un-tattooed and off the vampires’ radar. Unregistereds do not give blood and so do not receive food and shelter.


 

Vampire
An immortal, formerly human being with great strength and speed who survives by drinking human blood and is deathly allergic to sunlight.
